MANILA - Five airport workers who were honored for returning cash left behind by passengers deserve to be celebrated for their honesty, according to Manila International Airport Authority general manager Jose Angel Honrado.

Honrado said the honest workers, which included 3 janitors and 2 restaurant service crew members, would not have a hard time returning the money if they had found checks instead of cash.

He said: "If you find cash, the temptation to keep it is stronger because it's easy to spend and nobody knows. If you get cash, you can spend it already and it's gone."

"Sinoli nila kaagad at hindi na nagdalawang-isip. Hindi sa akin ito at dapat kong isoli," he said.

He noted that some of the 5 workers are contractual employees earning minimum wage.

The MIAA on Wednesday gave plaques of appreciation to the 5 namely janitor Ronnie Oquendo, who returned P96,000 left behind at the NAIA Terminal 2; messenger-janitor Richard Baybayon who returned P175,000 found at NAIA-1, janitor Rodelyn dela Vega who returned P150,000 found at NAIA-3; and service crew Rolly Absentillas and Mark Joven Aquino who returned P65,000 found at NAIA 2.
