The Sandiganbayan confirmed on Thursday that the Office of the Ombudsman has filed graft charges against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The case stems from the criminal complaint filed by Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño in connection with the botched National Broadband Network (NBN) deal with China's ZTE Corporation.

Also charged were former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr., and former Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza. The NBN deal was scrapped in 2007 by Mrs. Arroyo herself after allegations of overpricing and bribery were made. Sandiganbayan spokesperson Renato Bocar elaborates on the charges filed.
