Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. maintains it is the right of his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos, to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes' Cemetery).

"It is his right because he is a soldier and he served in the military and his record speaks for itself. And he was the longest sitting president in our history. By rights, he should be buried in Libingan ng mga Bayani," Marcos said in an interview on ANC's "Beyond Politics."

The remains of the older Marcos, who died in 1989, are in the family mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

The younger Marcos said the people should stop bringing up the past. His father's regime, which spanned 1965 to 1986, was marked by political repression, human rights violations, and corruption.

"We know what happened. His government fell. We were taken forcibly to the US and forced to stay there for 6 years. That's done. We really need to start moving forward. I think bringing us back again to that conflict that does not serve its purpose now," he said.
