President Rodrigo Duterte received his first military honors on Thursday after he was sworn in as the 16th Chief Executive of the Philippines.

The Army led the military honors for their new commander-in-chief at the Palace grounds at around 12:30 p.m.

Duterte afterwards met with the service commanders of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Duterte also re-enacted the tradition of climbing the stairs of the Malacañang for the first time as President.

The 81-year-old ritual symbolizes a President's ascent as the leader of a free nation.
