MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Jinggoy Estrada became the 6th senator to find Chief Justice Renato Corona guilty of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust.

Estrada said he is unconvinced by Corona’s explanation that he need not declare his dollar deposits in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth. “I regret to say that I am not convinced because the Chief Justice is a learned man of law,” he said.

Estrada is the 6th senator to vote guilty in the impeachment trial of Corona, who is accused of culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust for failure to disclose his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.

The others are Francis Escudero, Franklin Drilon, Edgardo Angara and siblings Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano.

Senators Miriam Defensor Santiago and Joker Arroyo voted to acquit.

Prosecutors need 16 of the 23 senator-judges to vote for conviction to remove Corona. The defense needs 8 votes to acquit Corona.
