A labor group expressed concern over the widespread contractualization of workers.

Speaking in Malacañang, Sonny Matula, president of the Federation of Free Workers, said some companies intentionally hire workers on a contractual basis to avoid giving benefits.

Matula urged President Aquino to certify as urgent a bill protecting the "security of tenure" of workers.

He added the government needs to spend more on infrastructure to meet its target of creating 1 million jobs a year.

He said the government spending has been slow due to the administration's anti-corruption campaign. – ANC Dateline Philippines, May 1 2012
