Balikatan benefits troops, civilians: spokesman

MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces hopes the public will understand the need for Philippine soldiers to hold military drills with US troops in the ongoing Balikatan exercises.

Speaking to ANC, Balikatan 2012 spokesperson Major Emmanuel Garcia said the Philippines needs to establish a good relationship with other countries such as the United States.

He said civilians and even US troops benefit from the Balikatan exercises, which include socio-civic programs like the construction of schools and medical missions.
