MANILA, Philippines - Proponents of the Freedom of Information Bill are not giving up on the measure even with a few session days left in the current Congress.

Proponents want President Aquino to certify the bill as urgent after the House of Representatives suspended session on Tuesday due to lack of quorum.

Deputy Speaker Lorenzo "Erin" Tanada III, principal author of the bill, challenges his colleagues to take up the measure in their remaining session days.

The FOI bill mandates government agencies to upload on its websites records on its annual budget, finances including income and expenditure and even procurement and construction contracts, among others.

Tañada said the measure would lead to transparency and help pave the way for good governance.
