MANILA -- Before you make a toast for the New Year, make sure you use clean glasses.

An expert warns using dirty glassware may cause allergies especially for hypersensitive people.

Using a wet kitchen sponge in cleaning glassware may make things worse because it can spread germs through cross-contamination. This happens when the same sponge is used in cleaning other utensils.

"In a matter of minutes, syempre dadami sila, mataas na yung microbial density," says Microbiologist Dr. Windell Rivera.

That's why Rivera recommends using a dishwashing liquid with an antibacterial agent in washing glassware and other utensils to reduce bacteria-causing allergies.
