US-based Filipino fashion designer Monique Lhuillier has showcased her latest collection at the New York Fashion Week.

By the looks of it, everyone can expect to see ocean-inspired gowns at the red carpet during the upcoming Hollywood awards season.

The Los Angeles-based designer wowed the audience as blue, teal, aqua and white gave her ocean-inspired collection the look of a painting that came to life.

The designer also surprised the audience with her mermaid concept as silk crepe gowns were cut with tiers that moved like fish scales when the models walked.

Lhuillier said she is happy that her supporters liked her new collection.

She also shared her inspiration for the designs.

"Well, Spring 2013 is all about water and the life of the sea. So you're seeing all these turquoise colors and then you're seeing midnight, and that's really to show water with the moonlight cast on it -- so it's like from day to evening,” she said.

“And then I also wanted to like capture a lot of movement, so I have fish prints on gowns, and then I also have strips that look like fish tails when they walk, and it's very sensual this season for evening. It's all about a mermaid look, you know, very close to the body, and just like streaming and just very fluid."[email protected], September 10, 2012
