MANILA, Philippines -- To prevent cases of missing children, you can download several free tracking and locator apps that can act as monitoring devices for children and other family members.

"Life-360" is an app that uses GPS to track the location of each family member and has a family chat for easier and faster communication.

"Child Alert" is another free app that allows parents to enter various pictures and detailed information about a child so that in the event of an emergency, this information can be emailed immediately to the proper authorities.

The "Mama Bear" child tracking app, meanwhile, not only gives the parent an idea of where the child is but also provides the child with emergency buttons that they can press to alert the parent.

It also has a feature for monitoring the child's activity in social networking sites like Facebook.

Another good app is "Gotya," a tracking device where a parent can request for the location of the phone by sending a text message which the person holding the phone does not have to see.

But tech experts say there's still no substitute to good parenting.
