Magician stuns Kris with 'teleportation' on 'PGT'
A magician, known in the early stages of "Pilipinas Got Talent" as a comedian, "shocked" the contest's judges on Saturday, after trading humorous tricks for a more serious act featuring levitation and "teleportation" as his quarterfinals performance.
Michael Fernando, also known as Mifer, impressed judges Kris Aquino and Ai Ai delas Alas after he appeared to make his assistant levitate at the PAGCOR Grand Theater stage in Paranaque City during the live telecast of the reality talent search.
The closing moments of the magician's performance, in particular, was praised by Aquino.
Mifer, at first without a mask, made it appear that he entered the stage and remained there to perform his act throughout the allotted two minutes. It was revealed at the end, however, that the masked magician was a double all along, with Mifer emerging from the audience.
Explaining that she had expected to witness a comedic act, Aquino said, "Kami tutula, kasi hindi namin inaasahan 'yung mga nangyari. Na-shock tayo. Ito ang masasabi namin, napakalinis ng pagkagawa mo nung magic mo."
Judge Freddie Garcia was less impressed, however, saying he prefers Mifer incorporating comedy elements in his performance.
Aside from Mifer, five other "PGT" quarterfinalists performed on Saturday -- the tandem of Tahanang Walang Hagdan Wheelchair Dancesport and BMG Dancers, dog tricks master Florendo Macalma, acoustic band MP3, singer Randy de Silva, and twins dance crew Symmetry.
Voting will determine the top three acts among the second set of live performers, which will have the chance to take two slots in the semifinals. -- Pilipinas Got Talent, April 20, 2013, Saturday
