MANILA - International women's group Zonta has created a task force to address short term concerns of Filipinas, especially those in Marawi, one of its officials said Thursday.

Zonta condemns the violence against women and children in the southern city which has been caught in fighting between the military and Islamic State-inspired extremists for more than 100 days, said its president, Suzanne von Bassewitz.

"Wherever violence occurs in the world to women, this is for us a great concern. Zonta, we work for a world where women do not only suffer violence, but where they can live without the fear of violence," she told ANC's Market Edge with Cathy Yang.

While much progress has been made to recognize women's rights as human rights, much still needs to be done because for the most part, women are still seen as second-class citizens, she said.
