The Energy Regulatory Commission has given provisional authority to Meralco to reduce its distribution charge by an average of 8 centavos per kilowatt hour.

This means lower electricity bills for Meralco's customers.

The distribution charges is part of the total bill, which goes directly to Meralco's pocket.

ERC says the good economy lets Meralco recover costs, even with a smaller distribution charge.

The energy regulator adds the reduction in distribution charge reduces the rate hike barred by the Supreme Court to 27 centavos per kilowatt hour from the over P4 spike. However, this is still subject to the resolution of the Supreme Court.
