The Philippine Exporters Confederation believes the Scarborough dispute may have been to blame for the rejection of Philippine banana exports to China.

Speaking to ANC, Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr., president of the group, said exporters of mangoes and pineapples are sounding alarm that buyers from Hong Kong may also discontinue their orders, amid reports that pests were found in Philippine bananas.

Ortiz-Luis warned the Philippines cannot afford to lose the Chinese market should the dispute come to a trading ban. ANC Dateline Philippines, May 16, 2012
