CJ dollars: 82 accounts in 8 years

MANILA, Philippines – Chief Justice Renato Corona’s dollar deposits grew from just one dollar account in 2003 to 82 accounts by the end of 2011, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales said Monday.

Morales said Corona had multiple accounts created for similar purpose; multiple accounts spread over five banks in various branches/places; circuitous fund movements; deposits and withdrawals made on the same day and significant movement on significant dates.

Corona had only 1 dollar account in 2003, which grew to 14 in 2004, 23 in 2005, 35 in 2006, 49 in 2007, 63 in 2008, 75 in 2009, 81 in 2010, and 82 in 2011.

The accounts are:

BPI Acropolis 8 accounts
BPI Tandang Sora – 18 accounts
BPI San Francisco del monte – 34 accounts
BPI Management Investment Corp – 1 account
PSB Cainta – 8 accounts
PSB Katipunan – 6 accounts
Allied Bank Katipunan Kamias – 4 accounts
Deutsche Bank AC – 2 accounts
Citibank NA – 1 account
