Welcome to Ho Chi Minh, the city formerly known as and still commonly called Saigon. Few cities in Asia have captured the imagination and fantasies of the world as Saigon has. But peel away the Hollywood images and you’ll find a city that’s is looking less and less to the past. Instead Saigon today is much too busy moving into the future.
Let’s admit it, much of what we know of Saigon, or Vietnam for that matter, we pretty much owe to the movies and the news media.
Some of us still imagine a sleepy, picturesque city frozen in the time of the French Occupation. A city of boulevards and rickshaws and street side cafes patterned after Paris.
