Former 4-weight division champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire continues his hunt for another world title as he set himself up for a boxing match against Irishman Carl Frampton.
Donaire, who recently won the WBC silver featherweight crown by outpointing Ruben Garcia Hernandez, will square off with Frampton on April 7 in Belfast, according to Sky Sports.
The 35-year-old Filipino has won titles in the flyweight, bantamweight, super-bantamweight and featherweight divisions but lost his WBO super bantamweight crown to a younger Jessie Magdaleno in November 2016.
Donaire is hoping that a victory over a former world champion like Frampton would catapult him back to a world title contention.
Donaire has been angling to get a fight against Frampton, who just outclassed Horacio Garcia, since November.
After getting word of Donaire’s message, Frampton took time to respond.
He lost the WBA featherweight belt to Leo Sta. Cruz before bouncing back against Garcia.
