MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is grateful to lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson for showing him some tips on how to defeat a Diaz brother.

Last December 8 on UFC on FOX 5, “Bendo” successfully defended his title against Nate Diaz, completely dominating the challenger over the course of five rounds.

St-Pierre said he watched the fight with great interest, as he will be defending his own belt against Nate’s older brother, Nick, at UFC 158 in March 2013.

“I watched very carefully your fight against Nate Diaz,” St-Pierre told Henderson, as quoted by MMA Mania

“I’m going to try to use some of the stuff you have done in the fight to win over Nick Diaz as well. I’m going to learn from what you did and try to apply it in my game plan,” he added. “Thanks for showing me the blueprint.”

Henderson completely took Diaz out of his game very early on in the fight, using low leg kicks to keep Diaz from establishing his boxing game. He also used his athleticism to scramble out of Diaz’s submission attempts.

Henderson also took down Diaz numerous times en route to a unanimous decision victory.
