MANILA, Philippines – The super bantamweight clash between Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and Jorge Arce drew a larger audience than the light-welterweight fight between Amir Khan and Carlos Molina, according to a Boxing Scene report.
The Donaire-Arce clash, which was broadcast on HBO, saw “The Filipino Flash” knockout Arce late in the third round. Citing the ratings released by Nielsen Media Research, Boxing Scene’s Keith Idec said the fight drew “slightly more than 1.3 million viewers.”
Meanwhile, the Khan-Molina bout drew “roughly 616,000 viewers.” The fight saw Khan stopping Molina in the 10th round.
Idec said the HBO broadcast of the Donaire fight likely benefited from a strong lead-in, as HBO showed a replay of the fourth fight between rivals Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao before the Donaire-Arce clash.
