NAYPYITAW, Myanmar -- Day 8 of the 27th Southeast Asian Games saw three more gold medals for the Philippines.
The first was from Jade Zafra in the women's 57-kilogram in taekwondo. She was up against a tough Thai, Worawong Pongpanit.
The fight was close until mid-third round, when Zafra finally got a clean kick to the head for a comfortable lead in the dying seconds.
“Laking pasalamat ko sa mga coaches ko sa tiwala sa akin kahit first SEA Games ko ito, talagang pinag-hirapan namin paghandaan ito,” said Zafra.
In athletics, a double gold medal was also in sight for 400m hurdles gold medalist, Fil-Am Eric Cray. But he fell short in the 110m hurdles.
Another gold came in courtesy of Danny Caluag in the men's BMX event.
Before the day ended, Pinoys got another gold medal in the men's 4x400m relay with Isidro Del Prado, Julius Nierras, Ed Alejan, and Archand Bagsit.
Bagsit was the gold medalist for the 400m and he joined Princess Superal as a double gold medalist.
The current tally for the Philippines is 23 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze medals.
