MANILA, Philippines -- Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida wants another chance to fight reigning champion Jon "Bones" Jones.

Machida lost to Jones via a guillotine choke when they met at UFC 140, but the former champion is credited for having given Jones the toughest test of his young career.

Machida gave Jones plenty of trouble in the first round with his quick inside-and-out movements and his counterstriking before Jones took control of the second round and finished him off.

"My main goal is to be the champion of the weight class and bring the belt back to Para," Machida told ESPN. "Now it is a challenge to beat Jones and bounce back."

"We already know the path to get to him. And in the next fight, the things should happen with more ease," he added.

Machida said he has three fights left in his UFC contract and wants at least one of those fights to be a rematch against Jones.

"I think we always have to be learning something out of this. And it is through the loss that we learn more than with the victory," he said. "I am a professional and it is part of my career, to win or to lose."

If Machida fails to beat Jones in the rematch, he will consider moving to the middleweight division, where fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva has long been the champion.

"I don't want to change, but if I am not the light heavyweight champion, it really could happen," Machida said.

Machida has lost three of his last four bouts, with his only win coming against aging fighter Randy Couture.

Before his failed attempt to win the title against Jones, he also lost to former champions Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
