MANILA, Philippines – The Letran Knights continued to stamp their class in the 9th Fr. Martin Cup Collegiate Open basketball tournament with a dominant victory over the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons.
Kevin Racal and Mark Cruz sizzled with 20 and 18 points for the Knights, who outplayed the UP Maroons, 82-65, last Saturday at the Arellano University gym in Legarda, Manila.
The win allowed the Knights to bounce back from a 55-69 setback against defending champions San Beda Red Lions and post their second triumph in three games in Group A.
Cruz scored nine points in the third period for the Knights, allowing them to post a 66-53 lead going into the final quarter.
Meanwhile, the Adamson Falcons registered a 76-66 victory over the Informatics Icons led by Gian Abrigo and Ingrid Sewa.
Abrigo scored 19 and Sewa had 15 points for the Falcons, who picked up their second straight triumph in Group B.
Sewa scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth period as the Falcons pulled away.
In another game, Noube Happi scored 18 points as the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals turned back the Mapua Cardinals, 62-55.
The Generals leaned on back-to-back triples by John Jamon in the last two minutes to help them earn their second win in three games.
Jamon’s treys came with 1:43 to go and gave the Generals a 62-55 cushion in the final minute of the contest.
