MANILA, Philippines – Ginebra San Miguel is bracing for another tough outing against Rain or Shine when they clash in a deciding Game 3 in their best-of-3 quarterfinals showdown on Sunday’s PBA Philippine Cup.
The Gin Kings rebounded from an 82-65 loss in the series opener by edging the Elasto Painters with a 79-77 squeaker last Friday.
Ginebra and Rain or Shine will battle it out at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the right to play against San Mig Coffee in the semis.
“I don’t expect it getting any easier,” said coach Siot Tanquingcen in the league’s website.
“I’m really thankful for [Friday’s] win,” he said. “Pero in a way back to zero lang. It will all come down to Sunday. Rain or Shine is a very tough team, very resilient. It will be a very interesting game on Sunday.”
The Elasto Painters could have won Game 2 if not for Beau Belga’s offensive foul on Rico Maierhofer and Jeff Chan’s muffed triple late in the game.
This is why Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao is confident of their chances.
Guiao said they only need to make small adjustments to cover their mistakes in Game 2.
“We need to fix some things, like our rebounding and our zone offense, but we will be okay on Sunday,” he said.
