MANILA, Philippines – Former world champion Jorge Arce said he will try to duplicate the knockout win of fellow Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez when he squares off against "Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire Jr. this weekend.
Arce said he’ll be using Marquez’s 6th-round stoppage of Manny Pacquiao to motivate himself ahead of the Donaire fight.
"Marquez's victory, my experience, my style, my delivery in the ring and especially the strong criticism of my detractors have heavily motivated me,” said the Mexican fighter, according to Boxing Scene.
Donaire is set to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight title against Arce this Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Due to his more refined boxing skills, the Filipino Flash is heavily favored to win against the Mexican brawler.
But Arce this only motivates him more to aim for a knockout win against Donaire.
“We will bring a lot of strength, explosiveness and my physical condition will be like it's never been before. I am eager to be in the ring against Donaire," he said.
