MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White said he is working on a deal that would pit welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre against Nick Diaz.
According to MMA Fighting, White is looking at a March 16 fight date in Montreal, Canada.
But the "deal isn't done [yet],” he said.
White said St-Pierre, who was sidelined by injury for a year, has personally asked a Diaz fight instead of going up against middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
"Georges has been off for a year. [Silva is] a tough fight for him to come back to. He asked personally for the [Diaz] fight," the UFC executive said. "He doesn't ask for things. So if he wants to fight Nick Diaz, and Nick Diaz wants to fight him, then that's probably the fight we'll make.”
Diaz was supposed to fight St-Pierre last February, but the French-Canadian had to bail out after suffering an ACL injury during training.
