MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Freddie Roach is open to see his ward Manny Pacquiao in a fifth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Roach asserted that the Filipino boxer is still capable of doing damage despite suffering a shocking knockout loss to Marquez over the weekend.
“I know Manny better than anybody because of our long years of association and I know that in winning 10 world titles in eight weight divisions,” Roach told Philboxing’s Eddie Alinea.
“If reports are true that he wants Marquez for the fifth time, so be it,” he said.
The trainer pointed out that Pacquiao was clearly dominating Marquez before he walked straight onto the Mexican’s counter right hand, which led to Filipino’s first knockout loss since 1996.
“You saw the fight, everybody saw the fight where Manny was dominating until that crucial moment when he became careless and caught Marquez’s right head-on,” said Roach.
“Manny got careless and Marquez got lucky. That was what Saturday’s fight was about and that’s what boxing fans saw,” he said.
