MANILA, Philippines – Defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers and the Adamson Lady Falcons earned their second wins in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping their respective foes Thursday at the San Juan Arena.
The Lady Spikers imposed their will on the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws in three sets, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-16 to clinch their second straight victory.
Sophomore star Ara Galang led a balanced La Salle effort with 15 points on nine attacks, three blocks and three serves.
“Pinaghandaan namin talaga (ang game) at binigay namin ang best namin,” Galang said.
After a nip-and-tuck start to the first set, the Lady Spikers pulled away following the second technical timeout with the Lady Tamaraws suffering from poor reception.
La Salle found their offensive rhythm in the second and third sets, with their varied attacks putting pressure on the FEU defense.
The Lady Spikers also amped up their defense, with Galang and Michelle Gumabao combining to block several attacks from the Lady Tamaraws. FEU did not help their cause as their spotty reception continued through the second and third sets.
It was La Salle’s second consecutive win after dropping their season opener to University of Sto. Tomas in five sets.
Meanwhile, the Lady Falcons also registered a straight sets victory over the University of the Philippines, 25-12, 25-19 and 25-13.
Shiela Pineda had 16 points while Mayette Zapanta and Pau Soriano each scored 11 points.
Both the Lady Spikers and the Lady Falcons have identical 2-1 records, tied with the National University Lady Bulldogs in the league standings.
The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons both dropped to 1-2.
