MANILA, Philippines – Super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire is expected to rely on his skills and ring intelligence in dismantling Mexican brawler Jorge Arce, according to boxing commentator Ronnie Nathanieslz.
“The thing going for Nonito Donaire is his skills and intelligence,” the boxing analyst said on ANC’s "Hardball."
Nathanielsz said testament to the Filipino Flash’s ring savvy was his victory over an equally calculating Toshiaki Nishioka last October.
After sustaining a left hand injury midway the fight, Donaire dropped Nishioka with a huge right hand, effectively ending the bout in the ninth round.
“He suckered Nishioka, he drew him... then threw his right hand,” Nathanielsz said. “He's a thinking fighter, he's an intelligent fighter.”
However, the analyst said it won’t be an easy fight against Arce, who is known for his all-or-nothing style.
And this makes for an interesting match, he said.
“Arce is a warrior, he’s gonna come forward from start to finish, he's gonna get bloody, he's gonna get battered but he's gonna be there all the time,” the veteran commentator said.
At stake in the fight, which takes place on December 16, is Donaire’s World Boxing Organization super bantamweight crown.
