MANILA, Philippines – The trainer of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre thinks Nick Diaz has the biggest chance to get the welterweight title shot.
Firas Zahabi, who works with St-Pierre, said Diaz’s record speaks for itself.
"I think Diaz is the guy who deserves it most," Zahabi said in an interview with USA Today. "His fight with Carlos (Condit) was so close. Who knows? People judge it both ways.
"[Diaz is] the guy who is the Strikeforce champion. He climbed up the ladder all the way.”
Zahabi said Johny Hendricks may also deserve a shot against St-Pierre after his 1st round demolition of Martin Kampmann, but he lacks the record worthy of a No. 1 contender.
“Johny deserves it very much, but Diaz has been there longer and done more fights and has bigger wins,” said Zahabi.
Diaz is currently serving a suspension after testing positive for marijuana metabolites following his decision loss to Condit.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended him until February 4, 2013.
