MANILA (UPDATE) - Ex-PBA star Dennis Espino will be arraigned on Tuesday at the Regional Trial Court Branch 42 on charges of serious illegal detention and possession of firearms following his arrest in Pampanga yesterday.
Espino's former secretary, Mildred Eiman, had filed charges against Espino for locking her up for more than a month for failing to pay a debt amounting to P5,000.
Espino, on the other hand, accused Eiman of qualified theft for allegedly taking money from his farm.
According to Eiman's lawyers, Espino eluded arrest for more than eight months, "which according to the police was due to his political connections in Pampanga."
"This is a big first step towards achieving justice for simple folk like Mildred Eiman, who only wanted to earn a decent living as Espino's farm secretary, but was treated unjustly by the former basketball star," said Terry Ridon, Eiman's defense lawyer.
"The heroic efforts of the CIDG led by Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr. must be commended for taking the lead in bringing Espino to justice," he added.
