MANILA, Philippines - Young Mexican boxer Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is willing to drop down in weight just for the chance to fight undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Alvarez campaigns at the middleweight division, while Mayweather fights at welterweight.
Alvarez saID, however, that he is willing to fight Mayweather at a 150-pound catchweight.
"It's what I want, the Mayweather fight. That's what we put on the table. I feel more mature and for that I am willing to go down to 150-pounds," Alvarez said in a Boxing Scene interview.
Alvarez recently defeated Kermit Cintron via a fifth round technical knockout.
He called out Mayweather after the fight and said he hoped to battle the undefeated boxer on May 5, traditionally a lucrative weekend for boxing.
"(Oscar) de la Hoya said he was going to pursue the Mayweather fight for me," Alvarez said. "We are ready for it. It's what people want, for me to fight someone like Mayweather."
