MANILA – The Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR) will stage a unity run entitled “Bagong Simula sa Kilometro” on Dec. 1 at 5 a.m on Sunday (Dec. 1) starting at the iconic Rizal Monument, Luneta Park and ending up at the 100-year mausoleum of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal.
Runners may choose to run in the 3 kilometer, 5K and 10K races along Roxas Blvd where cash prizes are up for grabs for winners in each category, followed by entertainment provided by dance performers and band performances.
The 3K starts at the Monument to the Manila Yacht Club and back. The 5K goes to the Cultural Center of the Philippines and back. The 10K goes to Buendia and back to the Rizal Monument.
Families are welcome to participate by lending support and cheer to the event even if they will not be competing.
“This Unity Run is timed with the Filipino citizenry’s expression of thanks to all individuals, organizations and nations who gave unconditional help to the victims of the world’s most destructive typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda which wrought havoc on thousands of lives and unquantifiable devastation in the Visayas, particularly Leyte, Samar, the Negros Provinces,Cebu and Palawan,” said OKOR Supreme Commander Reghis Romero ll.
Romero encourages every participant to wear white as a symbol of the country’s appreciation to the overwhelming support and care that we have received from all corners of the world community.
”Let us return to our roots, starting from “Kilometer Zero” as one nation while we give thanks and remember the gratefulness of Filipinos worldwide. Just like Rizal, we are no stranger to adversity but we have the strength and character to rise up from the wreckage with sense of pride and dignity intact,” Romero said.
Romero expects around 20,000 runners inasmuch as the OKOR has already gathered around 10,000 signatories after three months of word-of-mouth campaign.
Registration fees are P450 for the 3K, P550 for the 5K
and P650 for the 10K. All registrants will receive very attractive commemorative singlets.
