MANILA, Philippines – Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao said his body is already primed for a 12-round grind with his long-time rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao told veteran sports writer Eddie Alinea of People's Journal that he feels he has reached his physical peak with 3 more weeks to go before his December 8 fight date with the Mexican counter puncher.
“Pakiramdam ko handang-handa na ang katawan ko para sa laban (I feel that my body is all set for the fight),” the fighting congressman said.
Pacquiao said he and his team will spend the final three weeks of training maintaining his condition while practicing the strategies they have mapped out for Marquez.
“Finishing touches na lang, kumbaga ang kailangan at I believe within the week, talagang handa nang sumabak sa bakbakan,” he said.
(We’ll apply the finishing touches and I believe I’ll be ready to rumble within the week).
Pacquiao is expected to spend the next two weeks at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California before they travel to Las Vegas, Nevada a week before the 12-round showdown.
The Filipino boxer said he is determined to knock out Marquez to finally close the book on their fabled rivalry that began when they first fought 8 years ago.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum said the fourth Pacquiao-Marquez clash could turn out to be the best and most explosive bout between the two ring veterans.
“We’re anticipating a tremendous event on Dec. 8. It will be a fight that will go into the annals of boxing history because these gentlemen that fought three previous times and over the course of the timeline, this fourth fight will be the best fight of all,” said Arum.
