MANILA, Philippines – Team manager Dan Palami said the Philippine Azkals are all set for their 2012 Suzuki Cup opener against host team Thailand on Saturday.
“I think it's safe to say that everybody's raring to go. I think with what our boys are showing in the previous games. I take we're ready to take on the mighty Thailand,” Palami said in an interview on ANC's Top Story.
Despite being ranked lower than the Azkals, the Thailand War Elephants are seen to pose a tough challenge for the Filipinos because of their Suzuki Cup record.
Thailand has won the Cup in 1996, 2000 and 2002.
It will also enjoy the crowd support when they play against the Azkals at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
“They will be hosting the tournament, they have the crowd with them, they have been really preparing for this tournament,” said Palami.
The team manager added that Thailand scouted the Philippines during the latter’s friendly against fellow Suzuki Cup competitor Singapore.
The Azkals' 1-0 victory against the Singapore Lions may have given the Thais a glimpse of what the Filipino could do in the field.
“The head coach was scouting the team in Cebu when we played against Singapore but so far, as far as the team, the Philippine Azkals are concerned, the team is ready,” said Palami.
