Games on Tuesday at the General Trias Sports Center:
4 p.m. – Cignal vs Foton
6 p.m. – F2 Logistics vs RC Cola-Army
MANILA, Philippines – F2 Logistics seeks to formalize its claim of the third spot in the playoffs when it battles RC Cola-Army in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix on Tuesday at the General Trias Sports Center in General Trias, Cavite.
The Cargo Movers (6-3) face off against the Lady Troopers (3-5) at 6 p.m., while powerhouse Foton (7-1) and struggling Cignal (1-7) tangle at 4 p.m. in the curtain-raiser.
F2 Logistics is already assured of the third spot, and should they emerge victorious in the playoffs, the Cargo Movers will play the second seed in a one-game semifinal duel at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City on December 3.
F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus said their morale is at a high level after a four-set conquest of the erstwhile unbeaten Foton Tornadoes, followed by another four-set win over Generika last week.
In both matches, import Hayley Spelman was simply unstoppable, while Sydney Kemper, Ara Galang, and Cha Cruz played pivotal roles in their offense. Abigail Maraño, Mika Reyes, and Dawn Macandili, meanwhile, dominated on defense.
"We're not doing anything special," said de Jesus. "The team just told me that they wanted to win. So, I'm doing my best in guiding them to achieve that goal."
They will face off against a veteran RC Cola-Army team that is coming off a five-set loss to the Tornadoes over the weekend.
Import Kierra Holst had 24 points, while Jovelyn Gonzaga and Honey Royse Tubino scored 17 and 15 points, respectively. However, they succumbed to the powerhouse Foton squad, which was ignited by Jaja Santiago's 30-point performance.
"The match could have gone either way," said RC Cola-Army coach Kungfu Reyes. "I'm glad the team is starting to peak."
"Although we don't have a chance for the third spot anymore, we will still do our best to win over F2 Logistics on Tuesday and Cignal on Thursday to gain momentum in the playoffs this Saturday," he added.
