MANILA, Philippines – Eight-division world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of the Philippines believes Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto will be triumphant in his December 1 clash against unbeaten American boxer Austin Trout.
Pacquiao defeated Cotto via a 12th-round technical knockout when they fought in November 2009, but Cotto rebounded by winning three fights in a row, including a 10th-round TKO of Antonio Margarito.
Cotto lost a competitive, exciting fight to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May and is attempting to bounce back anew against Trout, who holds the WBA light-middleweight title.
Pacquiao was quoted by PhilBoxing saying he believes Cotto will be victorious.
“I think Cotto will win the fight. Not sure if by decision or by knockout,” he said. “Better chance for a knockout, but not sure.”
Pacquiao also said that “there is a chance” of a future fight against Cotto.
A rematch between the two fighters was negotiated earlier this year, but the two camps failed to come to terms after disagreeing on the weight limit. Pacquiao moved on to face rival Juan Manuel Marquez.
