MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated Filipino lightweight Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta is steadily improving as he wrapped up his second week of training camp in Big Bear, California, according to his trainer and manager Vince Parra.
In an interview with Ronnie Nathanielsz of PhilBoxing, Parra said Gesta's training camp is doing great as he prepares for his first-ever world title fight against IBF champion Miguel Vazquez.
"Training has been great as we wrapped up our second week up here, and we are coming into the final few weeks and are bringing in new sparring partners to sharpen him," said Parra, adding that they are also working on their game plan.
Gesta's conditioning is also on point and his weight is "right on track," according to Parra.
"We are looking forward to a big night," he added.
Although it will just be Gesta's first time to fight for a world championship, Parra said their plan is to "show the world that Mercito is an elite fighter."
"We are looking to put on an entertaining fight. If Miguel Vazquez shows up to fight, then we'll fight. If he shows up to run, then we'll find him," he said.
"We are preparing for all aspects in this fight," Parra added.
The Gesta-Vazquez fight will be held in the undercard of the fourth fight between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
