Pinoy runners eye new record in Pasig River Run

MANILA, Philippines – More than 100,000 Filipinos are expected to join the 11.20.2011 Pasig River run on Sunday as they attempt to set a new world record for most runners joining a single footrace.

The event, organized by ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.’s Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (AFI-KBPIP), will try to break the 116,086 mark set during last year’s race in an effort to boost the advocacy in cleaning up Pasig River.

This year’s assembly time will start earlier at 3 am, while the 3K, 5K, and 10K races will start at exactly 4:45 am.

There will also be a 21K charity run to be participated by AFI managing director Gina Lopez, ABS-CBN president Eugenio Lopez III, Ayala Corporation president Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Alaska Milk Corporation president Fred Uytengsu and ABS-CBN Cable Channels and Print Media Group head Ernie Lopez.

Among the television personalities participating in the footrace are “Kuya Kim” Atienza, singer-actress Karylle, Pinoy Biggest Loser winner Larry Martin, and other Kapamilya stars.

The run aims to raise funds for the rehabilitation of Estero de San Miguel as part of KBPIP’s 7-year program to clean up the Pasig River.

Categories, routes

The 3K race will start along Roxas Boulevard corner V. Sotto, in front of CCP, and will end at the SM Mall Of Asia Globe.

The 5K race will begin at the Roxas Boulevard corner Pedro Gil and will end also at the SM Mall Of Asia Globe.

The 10K category will start along Ocean Drive corner Bayshore and will also end at the SM Mall Of Asia Globe.

The following roads will be closed on Nov. 20 (Sunday) starting 1 a.m. to give way to the race:

• Road close to both directions of Roxas Boulevard from EDSA to TM Kalaw

• Road close to both directions of D. Macapagal Boulevard from Buendia Avenue Extension to EDSA Extension

• Road close to both directions of EDSA Extension from Roxas Boulevard to SM Mall of Asia

• Road close to both directions of D. Macapagal Avenue from EDSA Extension to Pacific Avenue

Motorists driving near the race area are advised to take the following routes:

• All vehicles coming from south of Metro-Manila via Roxas Boulevard shall turn right at NAIA road or turn right at EDSA to destination. From EDSA U-Turn in-front of Heritage Hotel and turn right at FB Harrison or left turn at Taft Ave to destination.

• All vehicles coming from eastbound of EDSA going to South/Airport shall turn left at SLEX, turn left at FB Harrison or turn left at Roxas Boulevard to point of destination.

• All vehicles coming from eastbound of EDSA going to North/Manila shall turn right at Osmeña Avenue, turn right at Taft Avenue or turn right at FB Harrison to point of destination

• All vehicles intending to utilize the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn right at Taft Avenue or turn right at FB Harrison Street to point of destination

• All vehicles intending to utilize the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn left at Taft Avenue or turn left at FB Harrison Street to point of destination.

• All vehicles coming from CCP Complex or Hotel Sofitel shall turn left to Buendia Avenue Extension and then turn right at FB Harrison, Taft Avenue or Osmeña Avenue to destination

• All vehicles traveling Roxas Boulevard coming from North of Manila going to South shall turn left at Padre Burgos to point of destination.

• All vehicles intending to utilize the southbound of Roxas Boulevard shall turn left at MH del Pilar Street to point of destination.

• All vehicles intending to utilize the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard shall turn right at Mabini Street to point of destination.
