MANILA, Philippines – Suspended fighter Alistair Overeem is scheduled to make his Octagon return against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva sometime in February, according to an online report.
MMA Fighting reported that the two fighters already have a verbal agreement to square off in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 156, which is slated to take place in Las Vegas on February 2.
Overeem was supposed to fight UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos last May, but he tested positive for elevated testosterone levels.
This prompted the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to suspend the Dutch giant until December 27, 2012.
NSAC executive director Keith Kizer said Overeem will have to appear before the commission to apply for his license.
"The commission can go any way they want to at that meeting," Kizer said.
"They could say yes, they could say no, they could say yes with conditions. All of that will be on the table, but nothing can happen as far as licensure until after (December 27)."
