MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. would eventually have to face Manny Pacquiao someday or risk being branded as a “scared champion,” said Mayweather’s trainer.

Roger Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle and boxing coach, maintained that the super fight will happen because his nephew wants to prove that he’s not afraid of Pacquiao.

“If he wouldn't fight Pacquiao, he would go down in history as a scared [expletive] champion, wouldn't he? My nephew ain't scared of no Pacquiao,” Roger said in an interview with On the Ropes Boxing Radio.

The boxing coach added that contrary to what most pundits believe, Floyd has been in touch with his former promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum.

Roger said this indicates that the superbout that fight fans have been craving for will eventually take place.

“They want to do this fight, I know because I sat there and spoke with Bob Arum for a couple of hours with my nephew. I already know,” he said.

Roger claimed that the meeting between Arum and Floyd took place over a month ago.

Roger said that a possible fight between Floyd and Timothy Bradley was also included in the talks.

He said that this means more big paydays for his nephew.

“Floyd's gonna fight them, why wouldn't he fight them? Anytime you are getting that type of money, how the hell are you not going to fight them?” said Roger.
