Pacquiao-Margarito clash: Round by round

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 11) – Manny Pacquiao dominated "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito in their 12-round bout at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The camps of Pacquiao and Margarito even swapped charges shortly before their fight.

According to ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo, Margarito’s trainer Robert Garcia complained about Pacquiao’s hand wraps. They asked Pacquiao’s camp to have the Filipino’s hands re-wrapped.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach countered that he wanted Margarito tested for ephedra after reportedly seeing the Mexican boxer put “powder” in his water. Roach then went into Margarito’s locker room “closely watching” the hand wraps of Margarito.

Round 1

The Mexican jabbed but Pacquiao connected with body shots. Pacquiao's punches reverberated while Margarito has still to score a power punch.

Pacquiao also connected with a left straight plus fired a left hook to the chin of Margarito. The Filipino also fired a 1-2-3.

Pacquiao exhibited "smart fighting" while Margarito appeared to be slow.

Round 2

Pacquiao was able to beat Margarito's jab. He anticipated and cocked his right hand but Margarito connects with a right hook. The referee checked for cuts after a head butt.

Pacquiao tested Margarito's punches then fired a 1-2-3. The 7-division world champion punches with accuracy. He even momentarily rocked Margarito with a left hook which got the crowd cheering for him.

Round 3

The Filipino boxing sensation circled around the Mexican and evaded his foe's jab. The very quick Pacquiao fired another 1-2-3.

Margarito waited for an opportunity but he could not get his chance as Pacquiao peppered him with shots. Margarito retreated to cover and tried to pin Pacquiao to the ropes but the Filipino wisely escaped.

Pacquiao blocked a strong right hook. Margarito's punch was slow but surely heavy.

Round 4

Margarito drove Pacquiao to the ropes but the Filipino circled away. Margarito was able to block Pacquiao's uppercut but he already has a bloody right eye.

The Mexican tried to weather Pacquiao's attack. The Filipino seemed to be relentless. Margarito attempted to trap Pacquiao to the ropes but Pacquiao fought back.

Margarito appeared to be no match for Pacquiao's speed.

Round 5

Margarito pinned Pacquiao to the ropes but the Filipino seemed unaffected. Back in the center of the ring again, Margarito chased Pacquiao but the reigning WBO welterweight king has moved out of range.

Pacquiao fired a 1-2 followed by another 1-2. Margarito ducked another 1-2. Pacquiao invited Margarito to the corner, challenging him.

Pacquiao was in perpetual motion. He also connected with a right hook.

Round 6

Margarito absorbed really hard punches from his smaller and quicker opponent, who fired a 1-2-3-4.

The Mexican tried to sneak in an uppercut but Pacquiao wisely moved his head away.

Margarito then connected with a big punch to the body. Pacquiao moved away, tried to survive and punched back.

Round 7

Pacquiao became more cautious as he refused to be trapped at the ropes. He started to fight more intelligently.

The Filipino punched and evaded his foe while Margarito patiently came in.

Margarito sneaked in a body punch again and tried to corner Pacquiao. The Filipino boxing icon threw a final right hand to the face then the bell rings.

Round 8

Pacquiao showed no effect of the body punch by Margarito in the 6th. He bounced around then fired a 1-2 to Margarito's bloody right eye.

Pacquiao was trapped on the ropes but survived. He threw combos to Margarito's face but the Mexicon weathered attack. Pacquiao was held to the ropes again.

Margarito drove Pacquiao to the ropes once again. Pacquiao moved out and peppered back.

Round 9

Pacquiao invited Margarito, who has been wounded in both eyes, to the corner. He traded punches then moved out.

Pacquiao slowed down a bit but was still faster than Margarito.

The Mexican tried to corner Pacquiao again but the Filipino responded with a left straight to the face.

Margarito is relentless. He trapped Pacquiao but the Filipino escaped.

Round 10

Pacquiao bounced away while Margarito connected with a jab. Pacquiao fired a 1-2-3-4 and drove Margarito to the ropes.

Margarito recovered and moved to the center of the ring. Pacquiao let out a 1-2-3-4 again as he seemed to be unstoppable. Margarito weathered the attack.

Margarito's face looked reconfigured as his right eye is closed. Pacquiao then rocked Margarito. The wobbly Mexican remained standing.

Round 11

Margarito apparently still has gas to continue fighting but Pacquiao peppered him with several right hooks.

The commentators think that the fight should be stopped.

Margarito could not do anything against the relentess Pacquaio. Margarito even tried to corner Pacquiao.

The referee checked Margarito's eye for a moment, then let the fight continue. Margarito tried to corner Pacquiao but is at the receiving end of the punches.

Round 12

Pacquiao tried to kill time as he weaved away from Margarito. He threw a right hook then bounced away.

Pacquiao fired away punches while Margarito was helpless, virtually fighting blind.

The Filipino prevailed over the Mexican, becoming the first boxer to win 8 world titles in 8 different weight divisions.

Pacquiao now has 52 wins (with 38 KOs), 3 losses and 2 draws while Margarito owns a professional record of 38 wins (with 27 KOs) and 7 losses.
