Pacquiao attends mass before big fight

MANILA, Philippines - Seven-division world champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao attended mass at the Gaylord Hotel in Texas before his fight with Mexican "Tijuana Tornado" Antonio Margarito, where he attempts to win his 8th world title.

Here, Pacquiao offered the bout for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight crown to the Lord and his country. His boxing shorts, shoes, socks, robe and championship belts were brought to the altar to be blessed.

He also prayed for his fellow Filipino boxers in the undercard matches -- Juan Martin Elorde (grandson of Filipino boxing legend Gabriel "Flash" Elorde), Richie "Magnum" Mepranum and Dennis Laurente.

Present in the mass are Pacquiao's wife Jinkee, mother Dionesia, coach Freddie Roach, members of the Team Pacquiao, and other relatives and close friends.

Also spotted were Ilocos governor Chavit Singson, former House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr. and his wife Gina, and cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo and her daughter Crystal Henares.

After the mass, Pacquiao immediately returned to his suite to relax before the fight, which will start on Saturday night (Sunday afternoon Manila time) -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
