MANILA, Philippines – Reigning league Most Valuable Player Mark Caguioa of Barangay Ginebra was named PBA Player of the Week for the period of November 5 to 11 after leading the perennial crowd favorites to back-to-back victories.

With the Kings mired in a five-game losing streak, Caguioa came through with two consecutive strong games to put Ginebra back in the playoff race.

He scored 19 points in Ginebra's 81-79 victory over GlobalPort, helping the Kings end their skid. He followed that up with a 22-point, 11-rebound performance against league-leading Talk 'N Text last weekend as the Kings won their second straight game, 104-101.

"Mark exemplifies the spirit of Ginebra," coach Siot Tanquingcen told "Tulad kagabi, kahit dumugo na 'yung mata, bumalik pa rin siya at naglaro pa din."

"And when we needed the big baskets, he stepped up," he added.

In their game against Talk 'N Text, Caguioa sustained a cut above his left eyebrow due to an accidental elbow from Ali Peek late in the first quarter.

But Caguioa returned to the game and went on to score 18 of his 22 points after suffering the injury, including eight points in the fourth period to hold off the Texters.

"The Spark" insists, however, that the entire team should be credited for Ginebra's two-game winning streak.

"I think everyone is on one page now, and everyone believes that we could still turn things around," Caguioa said. "We added new plays and everyone is getting involved, especially our big men."

"And I'm glad Coach Siot added all his new plays and kept everyone intact. I could see good things coming out of this because even though we lost five straight, the whole coaching staff kept reminding all the players that it's not over yet," he added.

The Kings currently have a 4-5 record, good for fifth in the league.
