MANILA, Philippines – Three Filipino analysts are convinced World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will dispose of Antonio Margarito, despite the Mexican’s size and reach advantage, in their battle in Texas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

The fearless forecasts of veteran boxing commentators Ronnie Nathanielsz, Dennis Principe and Recah Trinidad: Pacquiao will win the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight crown, his 8th in as many weight classes.

“It's really Pacquiao's fight. Unang una yung speed ni Pacman, ‘yung speed at ‘yung lateral movement. Si Margarito sobrang bagal,” said Nathanielsz.

(First of all, is the speed of Pacman, the speed and lateral movement. Margarito is so slow).

“Even if parehong 100 percent (conditioning), I see Manny winning probably by a lopsided decision because alam naman nating lahat na ang lamang dito na Manny ay speed at skill, something na wala si Margarito,” said Principe.

(Even if both fighters are at 100 percent conditioning, I see Manny winning probably by a lopsided decision because we all know that Pacquiao has the upper edge in speed and skill, something that Margarito

doesn’t have).

The analysts said even if Margarito has the advantage in size and reach, he will have a tough time fighting Pacquiao because he has to make the 151-pound limit.

“Ang nakikita kong difference ni Margarito ay yung laki at yung tangkad. Sabi niya, sasabay daw siya [sa suntukan], mahirap ‘yun, ‘yung [Tijuana] tornado, mahihigop ng buhawi,” said Trinidad.

(The difference I see with Margarito is his size and height. He said he will go toe-to-toe against Pacquiao, that will be hard for him. The tornado will be sucked in by a blizzard).

“Alex Ariza said he [Margarito] looks like the walking dead. Kasi bumaba ang timbang niya ni Margarito (Because he went down in weight). He is working out 3 times a day. He is skin and bones, no saliva in his mouth, he can hardly talk,” said Nathanielsz.

Pacquiao’s biggest advantage is his speed and agility. Unlike other boxers, he can pinpoint his punches.

Another advantage for the Pacman, according to Principe, is his “diminutive size”.

“Kung napansin mo ang style ni Manny, ‘yung depensa, dumadaan sa ilalim, either sa left or right ng kanyang kalaban. The taller nung kanyang kalaban is, the harder for his opponent, and this is Margarito, na tamaan si Manny Pacquiao,” said Principe.

(If you’ll notice Manny’s style, his defense, he ducks either to the left or right of his opponent. The taller the opponent is, which is Margarito, the harder it is for him to hit Pacquiao).

The analysts said the fight could only end in 3 ways: knockout, technical knockout, or by unanimous decision.

“Pacquiao by knockout,” said Trinidad. “For a fighter to beat Pacquiao, he should not only be strong, he should be invisible.”

They said, anyway it would end, Pacquiao will run away with his 8th title. – With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
