MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national rugby team finished seventh among 10 countries in the 2015 Asia Rugby Sevens Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Hong Kong, and failed to secure a ticket to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The Philippine Volcanoes didn't make it to the Cup semifinals as they placed fourth in Pool B, with only one win – a 38-10 rout of Iran – against three defeats.
They bowed to China in the Plate semifinals, 15-26, but recovered to down Singapore, 24-12, in the playoff for seventh and eighth places.

"PH Volcanoes' Road to Rio ends, but efforts to grow the sport continues," the team said in its official Twitter account.
The 2016 Rio Games will mark the first time that rugby sevens will be played in the Olympics.
Japan nailed the lone berth to Rio at stake in the tournament after beating Hong Kong, 24-10, in the gold medal game. Hong Kong, South Korea, and Sri Lanka all secured berths for the 2016 Olympic Qualification Tournament.
