MANILA, Philippines – Super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. expects his December 15 fight with Mexican brawler Jorge Arce to be a tough, bloody fight.
Donaire described Arce as an exciting fighter because of his “go for broke” fighting style.
“Watching him here, just get that edge, that excitement because this fight is going to be exciting. We know what Arce got to bring in that ring and that is heart, Mexican, what do you call them? Grande juego (big game),” the Filipino Flash said in a press conference in Houston.
Donaire is coming off a 9th round technical knockout win over Japanese star Toshiaki Nishioka last September.
He will be staking his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond super bantamweight titles against Arce in Houston, Texas.
“You know he is that tough S.O.B.,” Donaire said of his Mexican opponent. “That's the kind of fight that you will see. It's going to be bloody, it's going to be tough.”
Arce said that although he considers Donaire a friend, it will be all business when they step inside the ring.
"Nonito is a very good friend, unfortunately, this is business but expect the fight of the year on the 15th and I'm gonna win this fight," the Mexican said through a translator. – With a report from Steve Angeles, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
