MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum hopes that his top boxer Manny Pacquiao will get his “mojo” back in time for his fourth clash against Mexican counterpunching specialist Juan Manuel Marquez.
Although Arum was pleased with the latest developments in Pacquiao’s training camp in Los Angeles, he said the Filipino boxer will need to maintain the same sharpness until the December 8 fight date.
“I saw him train twice,” the Top Rank CEO told Boxing Scene. “The first was the Tuesday after he arrived. He arrived on a Saturday night and he sparred on Tuesday. I was concerned because he looked very, very sluggish.”
Arum visited the Wild Card Gym again on Thursday and was pleased with what he saw.
He witnessed a much sharper Pacquiao in training.
“I came back and it was one of the best [of] Manny Pacquiao I’ve ever seen where he was sparring with some really good sparring partners.”
Arum said that even boxing trainer Freddie Roach was also impressed over Pacquiao’s progress.
He hopes that Pacquiao maintains his focus on training and blocked out all the distractions that hampered his previous camps.
“He’s been distracted the last three camps and hopefully he’s going to get his mojo back this camp,” said Arum.
