Artist inspired to draw Pacquiao comic book
MANILA, Philippines -- As early as he can remember, JB Gamboa has been doodling away on his notebooks in school. He candidly shares he was not the most attentive of students, but all that doodling developed his skill and passion in drawing.
Now, JB is a comic book artist.
His first attempt was the comic book “Laban,” the true love story of former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
During the creation of Laban, JB, along with the rest of the world, witnessed Manny Pacquiao demolish “The Golden Boy” Oscar dela Hoya. It was then that JB knew who his next biography comic book would be about.
Many months later JB, is now ready to launch his latest masterpiece, “Pacquiao,” the life of the best boxer in the world.
JB did his research, read all the articles and interviews on Pacquiao and gathered all the facts. He even listed a summary of Manny's winning traits that made him the success he is today.
There was a time JB was losing momentum, and doubted whether he could finish the comic book. But after a visit to the now Sarangani Congressman Pacquiao, he got inspired all over again. He believes that if Manny never gave in in any fight, neither should he.
With his comic book, JB also hopes to help address the problem of illiteracy. As a kid, JB learned to read better by reading comic books.
He feels that with the comic book on Pacquiao's life, nobody, whether young or old, will be intimidated to pick up this book and learn about the life of the modern day hero that the Pacman is.
