MANILA, Philippines – Precious Allado nailed a last-gasp basket in overtime to push Far Eastern University (FEU) past De La Salle University, 63-61, in a crucial showdown in the UAAP Season 80 women's basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
In the process, the Lady Tamaraws secured the last semifinals berth at stake in the tournament after improving to 7-6. They have missed the Final Four in the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, at the Araneta Coliseum, National University is just one game away from clinching an outright finals spot after routing University of Santo Tomas, 79-58.
University of the East (UE) claimed a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals by beating Adamson University, 70-51.
The Lady Bulldogs have won all 13 of their games in Season 80, and extended their winning streak to 61 games since 2014. If they beat the Lady Warriors on Saturday morning, they will sweep the elimination round for the fourth consecutive season.
At 11-2, UE is assured of finishing No. 2 in the elimination round.
The Tigresses, meanwhile, ended the eliminations in third place with a 10-4 slate.
In a battle of also-rans, Ateneo de Manila University edged University of the Philippines, 44-42, in the other game at the Blue Eagle Gym for a 4-9 record.
